Three 3G wireless routers

Hi

Does anyone happen to have one of these?

I've spent the last couple of months with slow speeds and lately lots of disconnects. The last thing I thought to check was the physical USB cable which it turns out is faulty, so I'm now getting 2Mbps with the modem hanging off the front of the PC on a short lead and just a 2 bar signal.

For better performance I need the modem in the loft (hilly area) and my Vista machine has never been that happy with USB kit, so want to get a proper modem.

Just a couple of questions if you do have one:

1. Does it need rebooting ever (as it's going in the loft)
2. Does it only work with 3 dongles, or will one from another network work in it?

On point 2 - if that's so I might be better off buying a branded (non 3) one.

I have a 3 dongle attached to a Edimax 3g-6200WG 3g router apart from a few teething troubles with getting the correct apn in the router I have no complaints

It has been outstanding it cost about £50 12-18 months ago which was the top end of what I wanted to pay

I have restarted it maybe 10 times in that time since sorting the early issues.

I cant recommend it enough

It's coming up as discontinued on the sites I'm looking at, Amazon have some used ones available.

you could have this in the loft, and then wifi to your computer,

The loft would be a bad idea unless you have some skylights.

Place it by a window that is closest to the serving cell site.

Was looking at this. I'm sure I saw a post from someone that it can't be charged while it's being used, though, that being a big of a snag if true since once it's up in the loft it's difficult to get to (and I get scared there will be bats in there!)

I was reading about that earlier,
though it doesnt seem to charge while in use, it can be run continually from the mains adaptor.
havent ever tried one myself though.
