3 mobile broadband costs

[link to this post]

I got a 3 mobile broadband dongle two weeks ago.

I check carefully when I use it as I don't want to go over the 5Gb for the month.I have a one month rolling contract for £15 per month.

I checked MY 3 and I've been billed from 25 Aug up to 1 Sept and then from 1Sept for a month.

So when they take the DD on the 19th it's a little over £18.

All good.

From the 25 Aug to 1 Sept I used 718Mb.
In the last week I used even less.

I still have my other 02 dongle as well and was using that.

Anyway last night I was on 3 mobile broadband for a short while and up comes a text from 3.

"You are almost at your credit limit".

So now I am afraid to use the 3 dongle even though this month I've hardly used it anyway.

It says phone 3 customer services from your 3 mobile for free.

I don't have a 3 mobile.

It also give an 0843 no which is too expensive to phone from my mobile.

There is also a regular no for use if you are overseas and I suppose I could try that but if I have a long wait that can get expensive as well.

So the 3 mobile broadband dongle is sitting in the drawer.

I have no automatic updates set on my comp and check the usage everytime I'm on the 3 dongle.

I'm very careful in my use and it's just browsing the web and email.

So where do I go from here with a dongle I'm afraid to use ?????

Thanks for that.

On another forum someone said you can get false alerts in error from 3 saying you are near your credit limit.

3 have told me that the text was an error on their part.

I have loads of data left for the month.

Just to pick up on one point:

Clearly you couldn't do this while you were worried about your allowance, but, have you tried VOIP?

Our 3G runs a fair bit quicker than yours, but that said, Skype only needs 28.8kbps in both directions, Sipgate needs 128kbps and another surprise with 3G is that it works pretty well - certainly a lot better than my old Vodafone mobile used to at this location.

I'd like to try VOIP over my new 3G connection on 3 my old 02 dongle was really slow, dialup speeds.

I have a headset and mic.

I think only certain mobile BB providers allow it but fortunately 3 is one.

I will investigate as I'm sure it's cheaper than using a mobile phone.

My useage is OK it's just that the text I got from 3 was a false alert.

I still have 90% of my 5GB a month left.

Is there anyway I check where my nearest 3 mast is ??????

Thanks.

You can find out the mast position - have a look at:

http://forums.thinkbroadband.com/mobilebroadband/f/3...

Ours is about 2.6km away, near the phone exchange.

Not guilty smile

Mind you that's why I linked to the thread with the guidance notes on "how to use" kindly provided by kwikbreaks, it had me stumped when I tried using it smile

Out of interest did you manage to locate the cell, how far away is it from you?
