Three 'The One Plan'

I was interested in Threes �The One Plan� unlimited data.

I phoned a customer sales representative and asked if I put this sim card in a dongle, would I be able to use it as mobile broadband with unlimited data.

He said that it would not work what so ever because I would need a mobile broadband sim card.

My mobile contract is with O2 and when I insert that sim card into a dongle it works fine with speeds of around 2mbps and is no different to the actual mobile broadband packages.

Why would Three�s mobile broadband be different on a smart phone package than their mobile broadband package?

Am I missing something?

Does it separate the bandwidth for phone/mobile broadband?

My guess is it will work from a technical perspective, but not from a billing perspective. This 'plan' is designed to be used on a SmartPhone, and probably outlaws tethering, which is what putting it in a dongle would be seen as - meaning you will get charged for the data.

I will admit I am surprised that O2 don't charge you for data when you connect that sim to a dongle..

Spasch, the sim card with O2 has unlimited data with a fair usage policy (for iPhone) so I assume I did not occur any additional charges because of this?

If I used the APN: 3internet with the one plan sim card, do you think I can get away with it in a dongle and not occur any other charges?

You would probably need to change the APN to three.co.uk - I believe that is the phone sim APN - so that 3 still charge it as a phone internet usage.

Yep, mine too but there is a £10 (I think) charge for tethering (so non-iPhone data).. That said though, there is an app on Cydia that will let your iPhone act as a mobile hot spot (and show as phone data)

Will a mobile broadband plan be faster and more reliable, or will a smartphone sim still work the same regardless?

the network I work for gives faster access to dongles than to phones. Unless you have priority access

think it would be the same on any network

I can't say for sure, but would expect you would get away with it

i phone might be a bit differnt though
