You got the H symbol? It can take a few days for your data connection to settle down. I am sure mobile BB via a phone will never be as fast as mobile bb on a dongle - otherwise dongles would not sell!

Keep the faith smile

Hi Yes Ive got H funny thing i tested at home and got generaly 1.5-2 with a max of 3.2 in the right position with all diff upload speeds, i walked down the village stood about 3 Meters from the three mast and did 5 tests not 1 went over 0.2meg i found that kinda ironic lol

I used to have a three dongle about a year ago standard 7.2meg one (dont own it to try now) and it used to get 5meg so all i can think is in the past year a lot more people in the area have got three lol

The Huawei E586 I have is much better than the E1756 Dongle I previously used. Yes it's less convenient to have to power it, but the radio in it seems much better than the one in the dongle. Maybe the new Huawei dongles are better as the E1756 is pretty old...

did a speedtest last night in the early hours and if i point the phone a certain way i get just over 4meg on just H i did manage to get a H+ signal very slightly but this was very flaky and only dial up speeds so all i can think is maby the mast in the village has not got H+ yet but the one in town has and the H+ im picking up faintly might be the one in town.

Just noticed where you are, I used to reside in Cawthorne so I know that area quite well.

There is a H+ serving cell site at the back of the Premdor site covering the M1 and some of the might head towards Mapplewell.

You will never get a good signal or throughput under the cell site as the antennas do not point down to the ground, figure out the height of the mast, the approx. degree tilt on the antenna and then you have the angle and distance you need to be from the cell site to get the best signal, also if you need to be in the centre of the sector antenna to get a focused beam of the antenna.

At the edge of the sector (or underneath) you will only get a weak signal and the QAM rare will drop, some carriers drop the channel bandwidth also based on how far you are from the sector.

Ah thanks that makes a lot of sense in why the speeds are so bad when next to it, Id say based on a rough guess of the cell mast been 13.3 Metres we live in the middle of a hill so id say we are about 2M taller than the top of the mast give or take we can see well over the top, And according to Google maps about 0.3mile road distance so direct distance a bit less id of expected a bit more than 2meg and at a push and touch and go 4meg

Ash

P.S. this is the info given for the three mast on offcoms site/info my phones giving if it makes any diff

Name of Operator 3
Operator Site Ref. S0200
Station Type Macrocell
Height of Antenna 13.3 Metres
Frequency Range 2100 MHz
Transmitter Power 18.7 dBW
Maximum licensed power 35 dBW
Type of Transmission UMTS

Phone
Signal Strength -85dBm 12 asu
Mobile network type hsdpa
Not Roaming

If you stand to close to the mast the signal will go over the top of you.
