you can tether (just not officially) on giffgaff as they cant detect it any way (not yet) not unless you go over the limits listed below

the rule is 1GB/hr or 3GB/day then you mite/will get an Data ban (seems bit iffy most seem to get an ban some get an warning i guess its how much you blow over the 1GB/hr or 3GB/day rule)

you can tether on the Three £15 all you can eat plan, just Not with an Three banded phone as it reports to Three that you are tethering(you mite need to use an VPN as well as not sure if Three do DPI as well),

if you have sim free or unlocked phone three can not normally detect the tether (Note if the phone Was Sim Locked Three banded phone and you unlocked it to Any network it its Still an Three banded phone so you get detected soon as you switch on the wifi hotspot or USB tether)

if your getting Three on an New contract it mite be an good idea to get an LTE phone for when Three get LTE network in place (as your same contract will cover the LTE as well at no extra cost)

I think three now do DPI because my friend put his sim (text 500 woth AYCE Data) in my nexus 4 and it still detected tether block, My nexus is a fully unbranded unlocked one direct from google we even tried it with VPN and also some root tether tools that are also supposed to bypass blocks, ive got a one plan sim so can tether anyway but he wanted to see if he could get around it, then again some other people have reported it works fine maybe its mast specific on what tools are used i dont know.

yea your correct about giff gaff but im my view its not worth the risk of getting you internet permanently cut off lol, also as others have said o2/giffgaff is slow as hell on three i get 20down 2.5up in the same place on o2 i gets 2 down 2 up 2meg on a DC phone in a SC area quite poor to me,

obviously up to the OP who they go with but my recontamination is to stick with three

i thought they did, it still could be the phone is reporting to Three that tethering is enabled as some phones do, yes still better going with The One plan with an DC-HSPA+ 42mb phone (maybe with LTE support for later on but they cost a lot of money)

example of broadcasting that hotspot has been enabled my Motorola RAZR maxx requests for Hotspot enable from the network, as giffgaff does not have the needed server, the stupid phone defaults to Blocking the Hotspot from working (well it half works it just does not Bridge the hotspot to mobile data, so hotspot works but no data.....), i need to root my phone as it only 1 number that i need to change to an 0 to fix it so it does not ask for permission to turn on hotspot (as the phone is Very unlikely ever going to get an OS update again it should be safe to do)

Yea when i got the nexus 4 i was umin and aring about 4G but my contract is up for renewal this December and seen as were not likely to see 4g till the end of the year anyway i just went with the nexus 4 for DC-hspa and will get a 4G phone with my new contract but will stick with the one plan for tethering 4G tethering will put a lot of ADSL connections to shame and even the odd fibre one lol
