New contract

I'm getting a new contract

I've ordered a 3G one on t mobile and a 4G EE one.
The 4g one is £10 extra a month with a few more mins.
I won't use the extra min anyway...

Is it worth the extra for the 4G network or should I just stick with the 3G one?

Thoughts?

It really depends, if I were to go 4G it would not be on EE due to the ridiculous premium that you have to pay. Personally, I'd wait for the other operaters to launch their 4G networks and for the pricing to get more competitive. I believe 3 annouced 4G would cost nothing more than 3G? It depends on your needs really, I get HSPA+ where I am so I'm not particularly fussed about 4G for the moment.

Only go with 4G EE today if you need the speed on an iPhone 5 (1800mhz) today.

Pretty much every other 4G handset available will support other frequencies that the other networks are using. We believe Three will also have 1800mhz but O2 and Voda won't have.

EE probably have more 4G than vodafone have 3G.
Vodafone claim good 3G but the reality is that it's almost terrible. I see GPRS even in central London... So their 4G roll out fills me with no confidence.

I will think some more about it. It's an iPhone 5 - I've had iPhones from the iPhone 3G roll out so I'm unlikely to change unless something absolutely miraculous appears.

Given the iPhone 5 only supports 1800mhz, and the UK rollout is officially 800mhz & 2600mhz, the iPhone 5 will only work on EE and the spectrum that Three gained from EE when EE was forced to sell it. Other handsets will support 800 & 1800 & 2600 and not have the iPhone 5's limitation.

I gather the other networks are hoping to switch on their 4G before the end of the year.

I find EE's pricing too high, and have stuck with the T-Mobile brand.

I will put it this way and lets assume I already have a 4g phone which I dont due to O2s greed. (£250 price premium for s3 lte vs normal s3, premium so high the s3 lte cost more than s4 LOL.)

If O2 said to me for your same data/text/mins we give you 4G but extra £10 per month, I would immediatly say no, is no brainer. The only time i would remotely consider it is if mobile connectivity was my primary internet but even then with the low usage limits 4g would only have limited benefit. I get about 6-7mbit of my 3G which is plenty good enough and my phone maxes out at 7mbit (lowly galaxy ace) so quite possibly its capable of more.

Only if you don't update the OS, as it then disables this accidental feature.
