LTE Band 7 - iPhone 5S??

I was in Wolverhampton City centre last night and noticed my 4G on BT / EE was noticeably quicker than usual, loading web pages etc.

I went on field test mode and I was on 20Mhz - LTE Band 7 - which as far as I am aware is 2600mhz??

I didn't think the iPhone 5S supported that??

So it is band 7!

Thought it was only the iPhone 6 that supported band 7!

iPhone 5S has always supported 800 / 1800 / 2600 the three EU standard LTE bands.

You may be confusing the iPhone 5 which didn't, but the 5c does.

iPhone 6 supports even more bands, and VoLTE which the 5 range won't.

EE has 2x20 at 1800 and also 2x20 at 2600 and I think is likely to only use 2600 in areas where the 1800 is showing saturation. City centres with lots of people etc.

Vodafone has no choice but to deploy lots of 2x20 at 2600 as their standard is 2x10 at 800 which has longer range but much much slower speeds.

I'll have to check my band next time I'm on way into or out of work... got a lovely speedtest of new 4G equipment that was installed tom upgrade existing T-Mobile mast few weeks back.

20Mhz is double speed I believe.

10Mhz - single speed.

I checked my LTE band the other night just after running another 90Mb/s speed test and it is 20Mhz Band 3 (1800)

Double Speed on EE is not LTE-A, but a price plan thing that means no 30mbps limit EE only have LTE-A in Central London so far. They call it 4G+. Vodafone have 4G+ in some city centres (London, Manchester etc).

The iPhone 6 supports basic LTE-A which can aggregate two bands together for a max of 20mhz. This doesn't help EE or Vodafone as they both have 20mhz in the 2600 band, and EE has 20mhz in the 1800 band.

Samsung S6 or similar is capable of LTE-A channel bonding to get higher speeds on EE 4G+ or Vodafone 4G+.

(No signs of 4G+ on Three, or O2 as they don't have the spectrum).
