Exchange Server

[link to this post]

Hi,

Does anyone know if BT Business Broadband offer an STMP connector for Exchange? I have a client who needs this installed, and I would like to avoid using software to pull the emails from POP3 accounts and send them to Exchange.

Thanks/...

If you mean SMTP, I don't understand the q. Am I missing something?

Exchange will be on the network server, talking POP3 and SMTP to the ISP (BT Business Broadband) mail servers? And talking over the LAN to Outlook on the workstations.

So where are these POP3 accounts you want "to avoid using software to pull the emails from POP3 accounts and send them to Exchange"?

OP means direct feed via SMTP - I used to have one when with demon (with a special feature to initiate the contact as I was using dialup at the time), but have never asked BT about it.

You're thinking of the ETRN (turn) command which dequeues mail.

With a permanent connection all you need do is make sure your Exchange SMTP connector is accessible via the internet by configuring port forwarding and opening a hole in the firewall for port 25, then setting your DNS MX record to point to your mail server - your mail is then delivered straight to your exchange server.

If you're using an ISP's POP3 service then clearly this isn't possible and you need to configure the exchange POP3 connector to go and fetch the mail.

Thanks for the replies.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know of any UK based web hosts that will fully provide this facility.

A few of them state 'Free Email Forwarding', but is the just simply forwarding from one pop3 mailbox to another?
