Training period

[link to this post]

Hi people,

Just completed the 10 days training period, and I was wondering what happens next.
Would my speed now be fixed even though I start turning off my router?
Would my ISP be confirmingthe completion of my training period?
I am thinking of swapping routers, would it have any effect on my speed.

Sorry folks I'm completely new to the world of internet.

many thanks

This would be better answered/placed in the Techincal Support forum.

Sync speed will continue to vary slightly if you always sync at the same time of day. It you sync in the morning it will normally sync faster than if you sync in late afternoon/evening. Useful background info here.

Actual download speed varies according to exchange/internet/ISP loads - normally better in the morning, slower evenings to midnight. Many threads in General Broadband Chatter and individual ISP forums.

No.

Quite possibly. More importantly it could have an effect on your line's stability. You need to read the link above, then go and ask the question in Technical Issues or DSL Hardware - have a read in each and decide.

Good luck for the future.

PS It helps everyone including yourself if you register a nick for the forums. If other Anonymous ppl post in the same thread as you (or you in others) then things can get very confusing. And as gnu47 said, yep - this is in the wrong forum.

The training period is one of the most misunderstood things about ADSL Max. The 10 day period merely establishes two things....

1. The minimum stable speed of your line - the minimum speed that your modem has reliably sync'd at. From this a FTR (Fault Threshold Rate) is calculated, and it is used as a baseline should a future complaint be made about line sync speeds.

2. A default SNR margin is set (usually 6dB) to give line stability throughout the 24 hour period. A higher margin can be chosen for lines which show large noise swings at night.

Other than that, your line will continue to rate-adapt to give you the best speed and stability.

That isn't set in the 10 day period, it can change at any time. It starts at 6dB but can be changed to 9dB on day 2 or day 20.

So the only thing that is set is the Maximum Stable Rate which as you say is the minimum speed it has reliably synced at.

"It starts at 6dB"

So a default SNR is set, then, at 6dB !

Yes, it should have been maximum, not minimum. Wrists considered well and truly slapped !

Not after 10 days it isn't, nor is it "set" in the sense of being fixed and unable to change.

Who said it was ? Do you have any other pastime, apart from nit-picking ?

every time you are picked up an error you accuse the observer of nitpicking, while simultaneously nitpicking yourself, so I can see why you couldn't take the heat in Free Chat.

If we're going to correct the myths around the 10 pay period, which is a good idea, lets at least not introduce new ones.

Go back and read the post where you describe the two things that happen in the 10 day period and think about it. Quote The 10 day period merely establishes two things.... 2. A default SNR margin is set (usually 6dB) to give line stability throughout the 24 hour period.

The only thing that happens in the 10 day period that doesn't happen after it is the establishment of the MSR and FTR. Item 2 doesn't happen. The line is commissioned with a 6 dB margin and this can change anytime thereafter.
