No signal to modem?

[link to this post]

Hi - I have had no broadband connection for almost two weeks. When I try to connect my modem enters "training" I then get the message "no signal." I have tried using two different modems and two different computers and am still unable to connect. Would this suggest that my broadband connection is no longer "live"? I have contacted customer support and I am wating for them to test the line (hopefully)!

if the modem tries to train then there is a signal present, if it fails then the signal isn't good enough to overcome the noise at the required speed.

If you have any extensions and a modern master socket you could try plugging the modem into the test socket revealed by removing the lower half of the faceplate.

Thank you for your help. Having tried a very new laptop which previously connected no problem (and with two separate modems) I can't help but think it is the line which is the problem.

sounds like you need an engineer visit, they will bring known working kit and if they don't get a signal work their way back up the line.

Do you know how much BT charge for testing the signal? Thanks

if you have a BT provided ADSL service that isn't working then the engineer is called out by your ISP at no cost to you (or them).
