AP Client - DWL900AP+ replacement?

[link to this post]

I've been using a DWL-900AP+ in "AP Client" mode for a couple of years, depending on circumstances/needs it connects a LAN upstairs to a DSL604+ or Voyager 2100 or Netgear WGT604 downstairs.

Over the weekend it looks like the DWL900+'s LAN interface died; symptoms are the same as you get if auto-negotiate isn't working right (LAN lights live for a couple of seconds, LAN lights dead for a couple of seconds, repeat till bored).

What would be a suitable current replacement assuming it still needs to connect to the same collection of antiques ?

[The "DWL900+" is actually a WAP11V2.2B re-flashed; I have a spare WAP11 but it's a V2.6 and afaik they're not reflashable in the same way, unless anyone knows otherwise.]

Found a WET11 in the junk cupboard (I thought there was a spare WAP11v2.2 too but there wasn't) so that's temporarily sorted the problem. Something more current wouldn't hurt, suggestions still welcome.

To answer your original question (although you now have a solution): any device sold as a 'gaming bridge' should do the job.

As far as the DWL-900AP+ goes, this product is rock solid and I can thoroughly recommend it, elderly though it is. It works indoors, outdoors (in a suitable enclosure of course), with power-over-Ethernet (with a minor mod), and has a range of several miles (with a suitable antenna). I'm still using several, and have a small stock which I'm holding on to. The only failure in several years has been a power supply (not uncommon with D-Link products according to others, but the first I've experienced).

I personally don't know of an equivalent replacement - the DWL-2100AP was OK, but current firmware has introduced some limitations (only a single MAC address behind an AP Client config) and the device itself is also now obsolete. Ah well.

I'm not sure what equivalent devices there will be for use on 802.11n networks. I wait with interest...

Kind regards

Buffalo WHR-54 routers reflashed with dd-wrt firmware give you client mode etc anbd a 4-port switch.

There seem to be several WHR54 eg WHR-HP-G54 (Amazon) and WHR-G54S-1 (ebuyer)... does it matter, or do I just go by the DD-WRT supported list (which includes them both)?

(And as an aside, does the DSL bit of DD-WRT offer decent line diags, ideally ADSL line MIB? the DD-WRT wiki says it does do SNMP, but do I need to add the DSL line MIB myself

ok, forget the DSL Line bit, when it says "DSL router" it doesn't mean "modem/router"
