All our computing kit is upstairs, the router is downstairs to be close to telephone socket and uses a wired connection to a switch upstairs. I should like to make this connection wireless. Is it possible? If so how? Can I use a configuration like that shown at:-
I have been using homeplug first tried Acer, 1 failed and I got my money back for both as it could not be replaced. Bought Solwise and one of them has failed. I am now very doubtful as to their reliability, they seem to run very hot. Anyone else have a view? Have I just been unlucky?

perhaps your mains voltage is like mine somewhat high. Homeplugs do have a history of dying, I was hoping the newer one / better makes would move away from this.

Hi.
I bought the NET-PL-85PE-TWIN pack. Tell you the truth I didn't shop around, mainly because I like dealing with Solwise.
What sort of lifespan did you get with the Solwise gear?
Cheers
Jon
I originally bought Acer Homeplug. One of those failed after about 9 months. Eventually Acer refunded the cost of the pair as clearly it was not repairable and they ceased to make the product.
I bought a pair of Solwise Pl-14. Now one has failed after 8 months. I am hopefull of a repair/replacement but with this experience wonder whether I should seek a more reliable solution. The obvious one is that which I have in place now i.e. Cat5 cable. My wife is not too enamoured of that.

Thanks.
I was afraid you were going to say a lifetime of weeks rather than months so that makes me feel a bit better about them.
I went for the 85s as there is no way they will be used to their full potential so was hoping they would last OK.
As for the wife bit, I gotta couple of suggestions but I'll keep them to myself Cheers
