Computer description

I'm unable to enter a computer description (via my computer properties>computer name). The box appears blank and I'm completely unable to type anything inside. I am logged in with the admin account. I don't particularly need to have it named but I'd like to do since I'll be adding other machines to the network.

You don't say what operating system. Windows XP

Control Panel --> System-->Computer Name-->Change button

Apologies, it is Windows XP. Thank you for the help. I believe that that changes the computer name, but not the description. Although I don't really suppose a description is needed, so I won't worry about it. Thank you again.

In that case follow that change as far as the Computer name tab, and change the description there.

I can enter into the description field on that page, with no need to click the Change button - in fact you can't get at it later. I go in with the XP style not the Classic, so it is Control Panel >> Performance and Maintenance >> System >> Computer name tab.

Anyway OP - the computer name appears in everything that matters .
