POE or Not POE

I have my own home network set up how I want it at the moment. I just have a small 8 way Gigabit unmanaged switch with everything going to and from this.
I'm looking to get some security cameras H264 P&T that can just require an RJ45 connection for power and video (POE).
If I wanted to intergrate these cameras onto my network I'm guessing I will need an unmanaged switch which is POE. If I went for something like a 16 way Gb POE unmanaged switch could I just swap it with my normal 8 way Gb switch. I guess what I'm trying to say is can you use normal network on a POE switch ?

Yes, the POE switch will sense whether a POE device is connected or not.

No problems with what you want to do but think it through.

Two other options.

1. Get an inline adapter. Ethernet from switch goes to the adapter which is fed with power too. The output is a POE link which you feed to your remote location.

2. Not pretty, but use your existing switch, and connect to an 8 port POE switch which will supply the cameras. Provided the switch to switch link is Gigabit then you should not see any congestion on that. 8 port POEs are way cheaper than 16 port or if it meets your needs an 8 port with just 4 POE ports.
