where does this reading come from ?

"browsing" response may not be that dependent on download rate, unless there are lots of high res images on the page.

the reading come from this site. when I tried a different site I got the expected speed which is 6,7 meg, and hence my query.

pass. So the Thinkbroadband speed test is giving a lower speed than another unnamed site ?

there is a big difference between 6.7 meg and 0.7 meg . you seem to imply that my question is frivolous.

No, he answered your question.

"I have not noticed any speed loss in browsing! so what is the explanation?"

Browsing uses relatively little bandwidth, so you didn't notice. That is all.

Re: strange speed TEST reading but what does Router say?

[re: Anonymous] [link to this post]

Speed test readings are not much use w/out the actual readings from your router. So please post your router stats and we will be more in a position to comment.

EDIT: This is not really a Networking query; more like General Broadband or ISP Unhappiness.

not frivolous, but trying to explain the difference between something and an unknown is impossible

My laptop and PC 's connection speed were 6 to 7 meg ( download) and 0.5 meg ( upload) regardless which site I used. However in last few days, using this site test showed download speed of less than 1 meg. But other sites showed the usual 6 to 7 meg speed. Last time when I checked my router it shoued 8061 kbps which is what I expected. I have just checked the speed before posting using this site test and it showed 0.6 meg .

Hmm, no problems here. We are in peak times so expect a slower throughput than normal.

My result at 7:48PM - http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest/results/id/1...

Usually (As you can see in my signature) I get 6784Kbps but from what I just tested, it shouldn't be enough to make some people's tests go weird. In other words: Thinkbroadband have more than enough capacity on their Speedtesting platform.

Have you tried port 80?

6784kbps Throughput:

Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8128 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 13.0 db 10.0 db
