Router security changed after power cut!

[link to this post]

I suffered a power cut today at home for literally a couple of seconds and when everything came back on the security settings on my BT Home Hub 2 had changed from WEP to WPA2.
It took me a while to get back on line as my old wireless password wouldn't work, I had to use the default password for the router to access the router software to see what was going on, when I realised that the security settings had changed to WPA2 it was pretty straight forward but this is the first time this has happened considering we suffer power cuts quite regularly (small village syndrome)
After reading up on router security I understand that WPA2 is a much stronger encryption method but is it normal for this to happen?
I had to alter the settings on 3 other laptops and an iphone to get everyone else in the house back on line, also my subscription to BT Fon was de activated by the power cut and I have had to re activate that, very strange!!!!!

I believe that WPA+WPA2 is the default setting for the Home Hub 2 (it was WEP on previous versions). Sounds like the power blib reset some (if not all) settings to their defaults. If it's encouraged you to change your security from WEP to WPA then it was a happy accident. There can be problems with some devices with WPA2, but if everything is working I'd leave it as it is; otherwise you could change it to WPA.

Thanks AnotherExPipex, have been reading a bit more about it since posting and you are correct WPA is the default setting, I must have changed it to WEP due to incompatability issues with an older device at some point, the power cut has probably done me a favour and improved my network security. Every device we have is still working so it will stay WPA2 smile

Some routers when you've made configuration changes that are working require a further step of Saving the settings

I suggest a planned power outage to see if the router has remembered your most recent settings. A pain to do, but better than trying to talk someone else at home through what to do when you are out and about and are talking them through it over the mobile phone
