Router to homeplug to ethnet switch?

[link to this post]

Trying to get a few pc connected but due to the layout of the flat, I either have to run a cable thru 2 doors which have to be locked pretty much 24/7, up a flight of stairs to a switch/splitter and then run another 3 cables to individual pc, or can I just set up the connection like

Cable modem ---> Router ---> Homeplug in ----> out ---> port/switch/hub ---> pc
..............................|............................................................................ |______>pc
.............................. |____>one pc......................................................... |______> pc

Wireless in my area is awful since it's in commerical area and there are a lot of wireless signal from the flats around me, tried different channels but anyone on wireless drops quite often.

and also what are the difference, if any, between ethernet port/hub/switch? and which will be the one I need?

Thx

Your proposed configuration is fine, using a switch connected to the 'out' homeplug. (assuming the router has at least two LAN ports.)

You should use a switch for preference because it senses the location of the destination and only sends data to the one port - whereas hubs broadcast everything to all ports.
