setup two access points connected via ethernet cable

[link to this post]

Before you go on if this is something i can find in google please tell me what to search for. thanks

to put it simply

[wireless computer]----[thomson router(DOWNSTAIRS)]----[wireless modem router(belkin,linksys,netgear)(UPSTAIRS)]

or if the above doesn't work

[wireless computer]----[wireless router(belkin,linksys,netgear)(DOWNSTAIRS)][thomson modem router(UPSTAIRS)]

I have a thomson tg585v7 from my ISP and it is really [censored] as you might know already it keeps on rebooting when i am streaming videos from one computer to another among so many other issues, i think my firmware version is 8.2.5.0.

So i have decided to get a new modem router maybe a belkin, linksys or netgear(can you recommend a brand and model please).

After i setup my new modem router i would like to use the thomson router as a wireless access point downstairs. I would be connecting the thomson router to the new router via ethernet since thats probably the best way to get good connection(is it possible to do this). Now i need help in configuring this setup if it is possible or if you have any other recommendations please do help me.

The main reason i am doing this is to get wireless access downstairs, since my router is upstairs and i dont get good coverage downstairs.

After this is done hopefully will i get any problems from the thomson router even though it is not the modem anymore?

The other thing that i might do is just get a new wireless access point and use the thomson as a modem.

Thanks,
Adem

CROSS POST

Cross Posting on Forums is frowned upon - bacause all you do is upset people (like me), who answer your post, only to find it is a waste of time, because somebody else has already answered it elsewhere !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
