I'll keep it short. Had DSL problems for an extended period of time. Eventually fixed by BT Openreach by changing the equipment at the exchange attached to my line.
This gave birth to a new problem.
Ever since they replaced that equipment (Jan 17th) every 30 mins or more all the computers on my network including wireless devices are no longer able to see the internet. Although they can still see the router and access it's configuration pages. After 30secs - 1 min things are back to normal.
This happened with the Technicolor TG582n provided by my ISP (Be*) and a Netgear DG834N.
Any clues?

Run a ping command in a cmd window for a couple of hours to see if it works when the PC's can't see the internet:
PING -t bbc.co.uk
Setup a BQM from this site to see if it also works http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ping

The router is directly connected to your computer(s), you CAN access it even if you don't have phone line / cable to internet.

I forgot to mention that my DSL connection appears to be unaffected when this happens. I've checked the router statics and there have been no errors or downtime.

Continous ping running since 22:11 today.
When the disconnection happened the pings began timing out.
Then there was a single ping that timed out later.
QCM started at 22:29 today.

Check your router logs (assuming it has logs). They may suggest a problem.

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ping/share/f49aeb931ae... Wow, that's a regular disconnection!
|
|
|

Logs don't show anything related to these disconnections (I've checked twice at the time of the disconnections). Only notable things there are some UDP floods cause by Routerstats and DMT tryign to telnet into it.

As the disconnections are regular have you looked at the router status lights at the time? What do they show?
|
|
|
|
All the lights are fine when it happens.
|
|
|
|
Have you tried plugging the router into the test socket?
|
|
|
But do you have separate lights for DSL and Internet? Some routers combine them.

That pattern on BQM triggers me to think I've seen it before with some Be connections, try looking through that section for people with BQM posts

No, I've seen regular yellow spikes from the TG585 but not red disconnections like that.

Yes

Yes. Both the Technicolor TG582n and the Netgear DG834N have separate DSL and internet lights and they're green when the problem occurs.

Like BatBoy said. Someone had similar but it was max latency not packet loss.

Better show the graph to the ISP and get Openreach in again.

Be* got back to me and annoyed me.
They called back today. They monitored my line over 24hrs and only saw one disconnection. They monitored sync not packet loss. I should have known when the guy on the phone said he'll increase the SNR the day before.
So I re-explained my problem to the guy that called me back. Reminded him to look at the BQM charts. Got him to ping me multiple times. Convinced him to wait on the line with me till I lost connectivity. Asked him to ping me as many times as he wanted during my disconnection. *grin*
Said he'll get back to me. 30 mins later he calls me back to say there was an incorrect configuration at the exchange. It's obvious Openreach used the wrong settings or overlooked something when they installed the new equipment at the exchange to fix my previous problem.
BQM graph looks alright now. Continous pinging to bbc.co.uk for an hour has 0 packet lost. Thanks for the help guys I really appreciate it. If it wasn't for yor help I reckon I would still be doing laps of their troubleshooting protocols.

Yep, you can see the yellow spikes on my BQM (albeit I'm with O2)
