Update on the loft fibre pull

[link to this post]

So, i basically left the loft crawl to this year due to being unwell.

Anyhoo its done and i'm happy with it, got to do some trunking in one of the rooms.

The only reason i'm giving an update is two fold

I brought 30m of om3 fibre, thinking it should be over kill, I ended up with a few meters to spare.....

the other was, if your using bendy ribbed conduit make sure you do not have any bends when you pull the fibre through with the string - i may have wasted a lot of time because of that.

You can get twin walls conduit that is ribbed on the outside and smooth inside. That helps when fishing things through.

--> youfibre 2000 Mbps symmetric

40mm is the smallest twinwall I have seen, which might be bigger than most people would want.

ahh thats actually interesting, its done now, I used 20mm which was fine for what i needed. I may pull another fibre thru for at a later date, which will be interesting, given the fun i had with it originally.

It’s good stuff but any multiple 90-degree bends will still provide a headache, especially with multiple cables . Been there got that T-shirt unfortunately 😂

If you secure the bends with conduit clips it makes it easier, the problem is when you put energy into dragging the flexible conduit around rather than that effort going into moving the cable through the conduit.

Ideal yellow 77 lubricant makes it easier as well.

i think we all have got the "i stuffed up on the conduit" t-shirt.

The good bit out of all this, for me the house now has a fibre backbone and i can't see most people needing more than 10gb. That said i'm tempted later on if my needs require it, upgrade to faster speeds.
