NAS / modem / wireless / router all in one?

[link to this post]

Rather than having lots of different boxes....I'd like just one, any suggestions?

Print server, decent firewall and ftp server would also be nice.

I know I'll only go out and buy these seperate and a combined one will come out straight after

Its possible, but probably more complicated than you'd fancy.

Linux Box (or windows i suppose)
Big HDD or a few.
ADSL Modem PCI card (as to avoid the extra box you don't want)
Lots of Network Cards (1 per machine you wish to connect)
Wireless PCI card (to provide wifi peer to peer link).

Install yourself a firewall type linux distro (or windows with some software firewall) and the ftp server is easy enough.

Personally,

I'd buy a decent ADSL Modem Router with wireless to cover most of your bases, and perhaps one which has a built in print server. Then get a nice little NAS (It'll have FTP if you buy something like a lacie) with ethernet and plug her in.

Cheaper, less complicated, and it'll look prettier..

A Draytek 2600 series box has what you want including a usb port for printer. Then all you need to add is a nice network hdd box like a Lacie Ethernet Disk Mini ... 250/300/500GB or one of their 1TB/2TB disks depending on your budget. and requirements.

Wish I could afford a set up like that....

Thanks for you input.

I currently have a modem and a seperate wireless router and then a linux box...I think with time they will make a convenient all in one as they currently have all of the stuff i require just each in seperate boxs, which is a waste and uneconomic..I think I might just have to wait

You might want to look at netgears dg834pm, its an adsl2+ modem, a 108mb wireless router and wired router with a 4 port switch and a usb port! i think that covers all the bases. i use a network printer which does not require a print server, works just dandy for me, network laser start at about

just a newbie!
