adsl broadband and treadmill!

I have a virgin 1.1 mbps broadband, a safecom GART(SART)2-4115 modem router (wired) and a dell 2650 laptop running windows xp home sp2. I have a motorised treadmill and strangely enough everytime we start/run the treadmill the adsl light starts blinking and i am disconnected. I have tried various things including changing the RJ11 cable, the splitter, the modem router (earlier I had speedtouch 330) but nothing has stopped this strange behaviour. Also if I connect the cable to send fax through the computer I have the same problem. Has any1 else suffered from a similar problem? and found a solution, Please advise. The RJ-11 cable plugs directly into the splitter which is connected to the BT socket.

I'm guessing the treadmill is possibly using badly shielded electrical cabling which can cause interference and drop the sync of your connection. How close is the treadmill to both the socket, computer, router etc? Do the cables run parallel ?

thanks probably true, as the treadmill was bought on e bay, the treadmill is downstairs on the ground floor and the computer and bt socket are on 1st floor maybe separated by atleast 8-10 feet,

There was a thread on this about a year or so ago. The suggested fix was a mains filter unit, but the treadmill had a switch mode power supply and the poster connected the filter between the motor and the switchmode supply rather than in the mains, with predictably unsatisfactory results for the treadmill, IIRC. I can't remember the final outcome, but perhaps this might jog someone's memory.

i tried searching this forum but the search did not yeild any results, looks like i have to continue with the problem, dont buy a treadmill from e bay if you have adsl!
