Home network setup.....

[link to this post]

Right, in short

is there any tool out there that allows you to put in a list of devices you have in order that they can then give recomendations on how best to network them all together....

or if not....

I have the following

PC obviously
TV
XBox 360
Hi Fi
Sky (normal box)
DVD Recorder
Sky Router
Extneral USB Hard Drive (more on this in a mo)
Laptop (wireless)

I basically want to be able to stream videos/music etc from the main place they are stored (USB Hard drive) to enable music to be played on the HI Fi and also my Videos and Pics to go through the TV, and also access the lot from both the PC and Laptop.

Confused??

To add to this, I believe I will have to procure some kind of Network Storage adaptor to place into the Sky Router to attach the USB hard drive to it. once this is done, I am half way there, and I know I can also stream video and music via the XBox to the TV, so I am not far off that one, now I want to stream music to the Hi FI (only has an AUX input)...

Now before going out and buying devices left right and centre, am I on the right track here or is anyone out there willing to share there experiences and/or offer me any advice??? as I don't want to buy alsorts of equipment and find out there was an easier way of doing it

TIA

you need to identify the available ins and outs on each device, for example a TV won't plug into a PC unless the PC has an RF out or a composite video out that matches a composite video into the TV. The sound card output from the Pc could be used to stream music to the hi-fi.

more or less solved the whole lot.....

courtesy of a cracking little programme called TVersity....

Streaming now via PC to TV etc only thing now, attached Hi Fi to TV, and jobs done....

Only problem is the USB Hardrive, so either need to swap for an ethernet one or buy an NSA...

TVersity, excellent programme, can't overemphasize how impressed I am
