Reconfiguring My Home Network

I have a BT Voyager 2100 ADSL wireless modem/router.
It is connected to four devices by way of the ethernet ports so the
wireless part is not actually used.
The broadband connection is via a quite long extension cable from the
main BT master socket to my office upstairs. It works fine for my 1Mb service but I am
contemplating updating to MAX up to 8Mb, which is quite likely to suffer from the
interference introduced by this meandering extension.
I want to move the Voyager downstairs to the BT master socket and
connect wirelessly to the original equipment upstairs but I do not
want to fit wireless cards to each box. I have an ethernet connected HP5850 printer
which I don't wish to replace.
I have a spare 10/100 8 port switch so I can do without the switched ethernet ports in the Voyager.
Can anyone suggest a suitable wireless device for this purpose which would be a
good match for the Voyager especially with regard to WPA compatibility?
The WET54G v3 has been suggested.

I'd wait and see if your current set up works before spending any money. Your meandering extension might be perfectly OK. Wired is a lot more reliable and faster than wireless.

Stick with wired. Put the switch upstairs where your router is now and put your router by the phone socket. Run a long and meandering ethernet cable between the 2. Eliminates the effects of a long and meandering adsl cable.

Well, that would, on the face of it, be the most sensible option.
However, the extension phone cable is thin, white and very flexible and CAT5, when I last did a run about 10 years ago, is fat, grey and doesn't do right-angled turns.
'Er in doors' barely noticed the run of phone cable around the skirting, over the doors and up the stairs but CAT5?
Dunno that I'd get away with that and there is no way I can run it through the ceiling/floor as it would cross every joist in the house.

That is plan A.
It's plan B that I'm working on now.
