Bt Line or Socket problem?

[link to this post]

Hi,
I've recently moved into a new flat, and have ordered line rental and broadband off of madasafish. I have received confirmation that my line is now active (for talk). However on trying to use the line it appears dead, there is no ringtone. If I attempt to ring the line from another phone, the phone sounds like its ringing (although it isn't)
I removed the front of the socket (it's one of the new jobbies with the removable bottom plate)at first I thought it wasn't wired up correctly as there where only 2 wires connected out of the bunch, however after having a look around on the net, this appears to be correct.

Basically, to cut a long story short! If there are only two wires connected in the screw terminals, is this socket connected properly?

Thanks in advance

sounds like its connected OK at the socket. Do you get a dial tone if you plug into the test socket at the back ? If not report a fault.

The socket to the bottom right when I remove the plate, appears not to be connected at all

Are you saying the incoming wires are connected to the removeable part? If so that isn't right, they should be connected at the back of fixed part of the socket.

Sorry if I wasn't very clear, there are two wires connected to the back of the socket down on the right. The piece which pulls out, doesn't appear to be connected to anything at all.

I was hoping it would something simple, rather than me having to call up and wait for bt to be able to fix it ,sometime next year judging by their call centre que

No, they're both dead, don't even hear as much as a crackle when I plug the phone in.

What I found odd was when I called my number from a different phone, I heard the ringtone, I assumed I would hear an an error message or something if the line was dead

Even if the line is disconnected for some reason, callers will still hear the ringtone to let them know the exchange is ringing the line.

Your line is not physically connected and needs to be fixed by Openreach.
