Hi all,
I'm with BeUnlimited - and use their BeBox (Thomson ST585 V6).
My main PC is hardwired to the BeBox, with another 2 connections on wireless network.
My wife's laptop has no problems with a PCMCIA wireless card, but, my daughters desktop (with a Netgear PCI wireless card) shows a connection, usually averaging around 70-80%, to the BeBox. However, when launching IE it just immediately goes to 'page cannot be displayed'
It does (or has) worked intermittently until lately.
I'm now going round the bl**dy bend trying to figure this out. Can anyone please give me any pointers? I've got a 5 year old continually yammering on for the CBeebies website..... trust me - it's painfull!!

I'm on a dynamic IP from my ISP - although this hasn't changed for a long time now.

Yes I did. If a PC doesn't know the gateway address, or the address of the DNS servers, you'll get "Not Found" errors when you try to access the internet. If your local network allocates IP addresses dynamically, chances are that this information is sent automatically, but if you are using static IP's on the network, you will have to manually enter this information.

On the PC that works open a command prompt window and type
IPCONFIG /ALL
and do the same on the other PC.
Then compare them, or post the results here and someone will explain.
Some wireless cards can see a signal but not be getting the local LAN IP address from the router, for example wrong security key or the wireless card just needs disabling and enabling to wake it up.

If you have a 'super reliable/always works' wired NIC installed in the PC, disable it and reboot.
Good Luck!

Hi, use the instructions below on how to setup your home (LAN) Local Area Network with Static IP address, it makes for a more positive connection wired and wireless because you tell it where to connect.

Thanks for the help so far folks.....
Please see the screengrabs of what has been asked for here:- http://www.mike-jackson.co.uk/pc
Does anyone know how to configure the BeBox to do whatever it has to do to make this work?
I've now worn out two pairs of slippers running between these two computers!!

Your "Problem PC" has an IP address of 169.254.81.9, which is an address that Windows uses when an IP has failed to be allocated by DHCP. That's your problem, but unfortunately what you've posted doesn't appear to be enough to explain why (well, not for me, anyway)
