WG111t wifi adapter problem

[link to this post]

Hi I have a netgear dg834gt and ng wg111t -both seem to work OK. Then I decided to update the firware for the wg111t- wifi adapter. I followed the instructions but major problem the software would not install correctly. So noting the various problems on Netgear site on this issue, I followed the instructions again, carefully, removed the program, then re booted again and installed the sofware and find I now i have 2 versions of the same software.??
[censored]- Now I cannot even connect to the web using cable to the router.
After trying various re boots and removing the adapter and re attaching it- no luck.
Resorted to doing a computer restore- success, back working again with the OLD software. What a [censored] carryon. I paid for the netgear kit in good faith but now find the quality of the support- firmware upgrades are sorely lacking. I wonder what my next piece of network kit will be- not netgear.

Hi,

are you talking about:
  1. firmware for the router
  2. firmware for the USB adapter
  3. drivers for the USB adapter
  4. Wi-fi utility software for the USB adapter

as these are all different things

Doing a system restore on the computer would not change the firmware on devices so I suspect you were trying to update drivers?.

Installing wifi drivers / software would not affect your wired ethernet connection - unless possibly you have manual IP settiings or have been otherwise tweaking TCP/IP.

(or do you mean router firmware and then you had to do some sort of factory reset on the router?)

If your router is giving out IP addresses and your computer is set to get them automatically it generally "just works" and without extra admin.

If you are using Windows, then you can use Microsoft update. In Computer Management - Device Mananger you can:

right-click on the device > "update driver" > let it search online
as it will only offer compatible updates.

If you don't like the results there is an option there to rollback the driver to the previous (working) version).

Note that if the usb wifi adapter has utility software you don't need it for the thing to work, just the driver is fine; Your OS will already have built-in software which is consistent whatever device you are using.

Hi, for the Netgear WG111T 108 Mbps Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter, did you use this Driver and upgrade procedure?
