Traceroute

[link to this post]

Currently, I can connect to one of my wireless access points which is then connected (wired) to a managed 24 port switch and that in turn is connected to the four port router which has an integrated ADSL modem.

If I use tracert in a command window or PingPlotter all I see it the gateway modem.

Is there any tool (or setting) that will let me see what is happening on my local network? That is, give me a trace to WAP, to Switch, to Router, to Modem, to WWW or in some cases from to WAP, to WAP, to Switch, to Router, to Modem, to WWW.

Out of curiosity why?

Windows 7 has a network mapping tool that can identify the presence of network switches, but it isn't great, and doesn't offer the sort of resolution you seem to be asking for.

I'd also be interested if anyone knows such a tool, as it would save me crawling around under a lot of desks, ones that are often not terribly clean. But as far as I am aware you're just going to have to start following cables (which is going to be difficult with the WAP)

Tracert will only show the routers involved.

The switches on your network (and those on your ISP's network, etc) are all transparent.
