Which modem router

I'm presently with Newnet and live approx 6km from my exchange so used to getting pretty lousy speeds. In the last few days however these have hit an all time low. Your speedtest shows a download of 0.1Mbps and upload of 0.4Mbps.Presently using an old Belkin F5D 7630uk4A and Newnet say their stats show line has been continually dropping out.
This may have been caused partly by me turning router off when not in use ( now told not to) but this has never caused a problem in the past. Present readings from router are:-
Download Upload
SNR Margin 9.5 14.0
Line Attenuation 64 31.5
Data Rate 1280Kbps 448Kbps
Power Output 16.5dBm 12dBm

BT are supposed to be looking at problem but initial response is nothing wrong with the line.Presently leaving connection on to see if things improve. My question is once they hopefully sort it out would I benefit from updating my wireless modem/router and which one? Would be willing to spend upto about £150 if it was worth it.

Hi, the router I recommend for a long line, get the BT business Hub 2wire 2700HGV ADSL2+ wireless router on eBay.

try a netgear v3 or a 2-wire BT business hub (or both)

speedtester.bt.com will show your IP profile which I suspect is very low. >1M sync at 64 dB attenuation may be as good as it gets. Is it the same in the test socket behind the master faceplate ?

i like the netgear routers personally they just work.

on a side note do you have a filtered faceplate in your house or are you using the plug in filters on each socket? i purchased a face plate a few years ago and made a big diffrence to the stability on muy line (i have similar stats to you but i connect at 4000kps down although i am with be).

Many thanks for all the replies. Line has now stabilised back at 0.9Mbps download speed which I agree is most probably as good as it gets. BTW I'm using an ADSL Nation XTE-2005 master face plate so no probs there. Also considering switching from Newnet to BE as they are LLU on my exchange. Newnet have given great support but do you think changing to BE would offer greater speeds because of LLU?

With the downstream attenuation of 64dB you would get more value for your money by choosing the Standard O₂ LLU package to start with.

Look at the forum here and check out the money saving offers mentioned in some posts (MKD, info usually found in his sig) by using cashback sites to purchase O₂
Make sure you do not get their Access package it's not LLU and is best avoided at the moment.

I doubt that Be would accept an order from you - they used to reject orders from lines with high attenuations.
