ADSL V10 - connection problem

Here's hoping that a Samaritan can help this very frustrated Newby.

BT installed an ADSL V10 recently after some very slow BB download speed. All seemed fine and I think the 3 other phone extensions were in working order.
Got home yesterday and discovered all 3 phone extensions dead. Master Socket works fine - BT says all is OK.

I used the corded phone currently being used in the MS to test the other 3. The extensions are built in extensions as part of a new build 5 years ago and have never given any problems.

We did have a fairly violent thunder/lightning storm on Monday night and I wonder if this somehow damaged the MS.

I opened the front of the MS and there is a solitary wire connecting the back of the box to the front plate. Is this as it should be?

I would be very grateful if members could offer some advice or perhaps a picture or diagram of the wiring as it should be.

Is this a BT faceplate with a separate socket for broadband and telephone, a BT ADSL V1.0 faceplate?

Can you post links to photos of the inside and outside?

Could you take a few pictures when you've taken the off the SSFP (the ADSL 1.0 faceplate) and show the back of that device and the front of the test socket.

As said some photo's would be useful.
You need 2 wires for the phones to work, so could just be a case of the 2nd wire not being terminated properly and coming loose.

How do I move the Master socket from the lounge to the study i.e. I want it there and not the lounge

OK, firstly you don't need a filter in that socket - the actual socket is doing the filtering for you.

Leaving it there won't do anything bad, but seems a little surplus (Of course, it might not be a filter but does look like one).

*You* are not allowed to move it. It is BT property and they'll need to do that for which they do charge.

OK filter will go. What about the cable connection and the front plate with only 1 wire.

As for BT owning it and I am not allowed to move it, it is a very simple job as long as you know what goes where.

The fact that BT want to charge rediculous rates and do not want to rectify my BB speed, their comment as long as I get 0.6Mbps it is fine, will see me do it myself.

The front plate with only a single wire is for an extension.

Yes, it is a simple job and most people do that - but officially you shouldn't as it isn't your equipment.
