Time based rate limiting

[link to this post]

I am looking to impliment a time based rate limmit for my broardband connection

I get charged a higher amount for usage between 9 AM and 6 PM on weekdays hence I want to throttle the bandwith during this time.

I dont want to spend too much else it would be cheaper to pay for a higher download limmit.

Any ideas?

Which router/modem do you use? It may have a command to limit the connection speed.

My Router is ASUS RT-N11
Modem is the standard BT VDSL one.

If i was going to spend much money on a new router i would prefer it to have a built in VDSL modem.
I have been looking at Draytek 2900 series routers which look like they will do what i want, just cost a lot and no built in VDSL.

If you are trying to limit the speed of torrents, most of the client software out there will allow you to do this.

Otherwise, many routers will allow you to limit\disable internet access, the BT HH2 has a simple on\off for time of day for each device connected. (I've just checked mine)

And don't forget, if you want a simple on\off for internet access across the board, a plug-in timeswitch can be had for £2...

Edit, I've had a flick through the DSL version's manual, and I can't see anything for time-based limiting on that router.
