My wireless router has been working fine until this evening. Now the internet connection over wireless has gone really erratic. I have powered the router off and on again and the ping times went stable but they have gone mad again. 500ms on wireless to the router itself! I have turned off the wireless on this router and am using another one. I'm still connected via the netgear's ethernet which seems ok.
Are sudden erratic ping times a sign that the router's wireless is failing or is it a sign of something else eg interference?
If it is dead then what is a decent replacement? I don't like the d-link routers as they are a pain to set up with VM. The netgear one just plugs into the cable modem and it seems to magically get the settings without any effort. I'm not sure I'd want a netgear again if it is toast as this one is only just over 2 and a bit years old so it hasn't really lasted well.
