Belkin MIMO USB Wireless Adapter requires hex code for WEP

[link to this post]

I'm installing on a desktop computer for a friend. He has a D Link router.

When I install the USB adapter from the supplied Belkin software, when it comes to connect up, rather than asking for the 8 character WEP code (which is printed on a label on the router), its asking for a hexadecimal code instead.

His wireless laptop just asks for the 8 character WEP code and accepts it just fine so I know its not the router or the WEP code that's at fault.

Any clues as to how to get the Belkin wireless adapter to accept the wireless key that's on the router?

Thanks in anticipation, Tom

Now might be a good opportunity to upgrade the wireless security to WPA or WPA2 if possible.

These are much more secure than WEP.

Log onto the router and navigate to the Wireless Security settings. and set it to use WPA2 if you can (WPA if not) and put in your own key. The longer and more complex the better.

You will then need to add the new security settings to any devices that already connect wirelessly.

Thanks - I went into the router and found a ten character hex code as the password, which was different to the "wireless key" printed on a label on the router itself. The ten character code worked fine, so problem solved.

Hi there!
I had a question. I just bought a wireless dongle for my other pc at home ant it asks me to type WPA preshared key. The problem is that on my router preshare key mode is set on ASCII mode and not on hex and in setup program of dongle it is only possible to type a hex preshare key which I don't have.

thanx
