traffic managing interal network

Hi all,

I was wonder if if is a way to limit the amount a user can use of the internet during certain hours of the day. Currently on my home network we are using BE we get a steady 11 meg from them but certain members of my family dont think about other people usin ghte internet whilst they download what im after is a soloution which will give the downloader a decent speed whilst leaving any other user using the internet with enough bandwidth to what they require.

Use QOS - some routers offer this. How does everyone connect to the internet?

some via wifi some via cable

AFAIK, QoS only limits how background tasks get priority over user apps. No?

im using the bebox but i could put that in bridge mode and use an access point

Well, the bebox does support qos in the cli interface, but I don't know how to configure it. That link I gave includes instructions like this....

Throttling your bandwidth by program

While most routers treat one request for bandwidth the same as any other, your new $600 router is a step above. By setting up QoS (Quality of Service) rules, you can give priority to your interactive traffic (like VoIP, web browsing, or gaming) while throttling traffic that doesn't require a steady rate of bandwidth to function (like P2P programs).

Doing so will ensure that even if your network gets clogged with lots of file sharing, you'll still have enough bandwidth left over to make all of your free SkypeOut phone calls. If you've got roommates who tend to sponge up a lot of bandwidth, you can even prioritize by IP address.

qos isnt what im after really though i want to be able to set my own limits on certain things
