Wireless on new laptop

Hi

My dad got a new laptop, got o2 broadband at home, and wireless connected fine, got eset smart security, and everything was working fine. My sister took laptop to brothers connected up to Virgin media wireless, again worked fine. Having had the laptop back, it keeps coming up unidentified network. Tried disabling, etc, even restarted my own router as changed the security setting, which I have then changed on the laptop to connect.

Brought laptop to work, and works fine again on same security settings - obviously different wep key. However did notice windows comes up, set as home network, office etc. Could it be sister has set it up as home network with virgin media, and has replaced the o2 home network - im actually confusing myself, so enough said, what should I be doing as I have no idea?

Also disabled firewall but same problem.

Hi, use Windows WZC (Wireless Zero Configuration) it should help you get Wi-Fi connected.

I am using it, it accepts the wireless key and says successfully connected but then states unidentified network, hence I cannot get online etc.. not sure what I need to do

Hi, It is probably trying to connect to the network you do not want.

On the taskbar wireless icon, right click the mouse button then select Repair.

I use Windows XP Pro, but it should be similar in Vista.

If you have Windows WZC setup, then on the taskbar wireless icon right click the mouse button and select, Status > Properties > Wireless Networks > select the preferred Network.

Have you tried that?

I am having the same problem.

I have been contacted to virgin media only yesterday but my laptop (which is running vista) doesn't connect to the modem wirelessly. When you go into network settings it just says "unidentified network". If I connect my laptop to the modem through the Ethernet cable it works fine. The modem connects fine wirelessly through my iPhone and xbox live though.

If however I want to connect to my dads internet, my father in laws Internet, or my next door neighbours Internet it works fine. Im totally confused and virgin media support team is based in India and they just seem to say the same thing, turn off turn on

Well i had same issue once, What i did, i rest computer, hard reset network router settings and flushed the DNS. It worked fine there after.
