Re: Problem with ethernet connection

[re: deleted] [link to this post]

Pop "ipconfig/all" into a command prompt and confirm that for the wired adapter connection:

The IP address and the Default Gateway are on the same network.

I would normally advise a ping to the default gateway or to 127.0.0.1, but I have no idea of the wireless setup and its associated settings and whether or not it will be giving the response.

The subnet mask is appropriate for the IP Address. For example, if the IP starts 192.xxx.xxx.xxx then 255.255.255.0 is the correct mask.

To be honest it might be easier if you PM me your ipconfig/all data. At least that way I can let everyone else know whether or not it's valid and proper.

These settings are messed up. Just set it to Automatically Assigned.
I'm surprised Windows didn't offer to fix this itself.

This data from your wireless connection is good:

IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.2(Preferred)
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

I would got into the network sharing center, right click the local area connection, select properties and specify the same settings. If that won't work, try changing the local area connection's IP address to 192.168.1.3 instead.

Odd that it assigning Tiscali DNS server IP's on the LAN.

Have you logged in to the router and checked that DHCP is switched on for the LAN?
