Re: GetNet 150mbps N Wireless Modem Router

Would tests done on routers using adslmax be relevant to using them with adsl2+ in terms of stability? Or our we looking at a completely different broadband system?

Sorry for so many questions but a move from IPStream to LLU and the implications for future phone usage are quite important if one wished to come off LLU in the future, hence LLU broadband would definitely have to be worth it.

ADSL1 (MAX) and ADSL2+ can be very different. The router may perform fine on ADSL1 yet have problems on 2+.

Looks like a TG858 or other "known" make/model is the best bet then...

Many thanks for your help smile

Hi, go for the Edimax AR-7284WnA Wireless 150Mbps ADSL2/2+ Modem Router.
Make sure you upgrade the firmware to v1.06 2010-07-07.

As mat has said, a Thompson TG858 will work fine, this uses a Broadcom chipset, as do some of the older netgear routers, dg834v4 dg834gt and several others in the dg834 range,
My previous isp was Ukonline, i was at first on the pro (upto 8mb G.dmt) using a edimax ar 7084 IIRC , worked fine, but couldn't handle lots of simultaneous connections so not too good for torrents, and whilst upgrading it's firmware it bricked it's self, lucky it was still under warranty, but when i switched to the premier package upto 16mb(22mb) adsl2+ annex a my downstream sync was poor and my upstream was being artificially capped at 1mbit by the routers limit,
my sync was around 15mbit or less on a default profile of 5db with attenuation of 29db, when i connected a netgear dg834 v5 (conexant chipped) which is a good match for easynet Dslams my sync both up/down increased and with a custom profile of a 4db snr set by uko, i obtained syncs in the 19bit bracket and on fastpath

currently on be, the be-box tg858 v7 isn't as good as the dg834 v4 in my opinion my sync is higher using the netgear, also i can tweak my snr and force different adsl modes easily,

With that router, i would be asking myself what vendors chipset does it use,and if you are gonna take a adsl2+ based service the upload speed maybe more than the rate the router will allow
Complies with ADSL2/2+ standards with downstream and upstream data rate up to 24Mbps and 1Mbps
some isp 's offer 1.3 or higher upload ,so although the wireless maybe fast the actual adsl side of things isn't that good

Im using a TP-Link TD-W8960N which can be had for around £40. I beleive it uses a Broadbcom chipset, is wireless N and works just as well DG834GT/PN routers I have used

E7er,

Thanks for the link to the edimax ar-7284wna, I did consider it - but would it be any better than the getnet, both seem very similar and made by edimax?

Best price on a TG585 v8 that I can find from a reliable retailer: http://www.amazon.co.uk/THOMSON-802-11g-Wireless-4-p... It would be about the same price as the edimax when amazon and scan's delivery costs are added...

tommy45,

May be possible to get an ex-sky model for cheap and flash it to the Netgear firmware?

Otherwise hard to find new for less than £50...

Hi 4M2, I understand the wireless on the Thomson router is a poor, would the wireless perform as well as the Edimax router.

I read in one of your posts
The GetNet router is made by Edimax and I use an Edimax PCI wireless card in a Win7 desktop that has proven to be very reliable and never drops a connection - not sure if that is any sort of quality assurance though smile

4M2, I just found the GetNet website did not see it previously.

http://www.getnet.eu/products_GA-524WA.B.html

Impressed with
The ADSL router supports ADSL standards: G.992.1 (G.dmt), G.992.2 (G.lite), G.992.3 (ADSL2), G.992.4 (splitter less ADSL2), G.992.5 (ADSL2+) for Annex A, Annex B, Annex L and Annex M.
