Yeah, in the recent past i have seen quite a few going cheap on flEbay, and flash it with dgteam or netgears firmware amazon i think also links to used netgear routers, but not as cheap,
i got mine from scan DG834 v4( wired ) from scan you can still get the pn wireless model, but as you say they are nearly £50 new or more ,

E7er,

Currently don't have any wireless problems with the edimax pci card and a tg585 v7 (plusnet branded, software release: 8.2.6.5) router, always get 54Mbps, but the signal only has to travel up through plaster board, floor boards and a carpet smile

I'm going to give the getnet router a try and see how it goes with adslmax, if it's a heap of junk then I'll send it back to scan and replace it with something else from them - there are pretty good with returns...

As they say:"watch this space."

So far so good with the GetNet router on adslmax:

BT test (router has been connected for more than 14 hours):

Download speed achieved during the test was - 6138 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate: 8128 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 7150 Kbps

Router stats:

Mode G.dmt
Latency Interleave
Trellis Coding Enable
Status SHOWTIME.
Power Level L0
Uptime 14:32:06

Downstream Upstream
SNR Margin (dB) 10.2 23.0
Attenuation (dB) 36.5 20.0
Output Power (dBm) 18.5 12.0
Attainable Rate (Kbps) 9792 1156
Rate (Kbps) 8128 448
K (number of bytes in DMT frame) 0 15
R (number of check bytes in RS code word) 0 8
S (RS code word size in DMT frame) 655.35 8.00
D (interleaver depth) 1 4
Delay (msec) 655.35 8.00
FEC 0 81
CRC 967 95
Total ES 440 12
Total SES 6 0
Total UAS 0 0

(Tg585 always gave attenuation readings of 34 or 35dB down and 20.5 or 21dB up.)

Wireless strength and coverage is good, although at the moment I've only got it set to 2.4 GHz (G) and 60 mW.

Also it runs as cool as a cucumber smile

Edit: not using the supplied filter - using a filtered faceplate and no bell wire on the extension to a cordless phone base.

This looks promising also:

1. Your Tweakable Settings
Receive Window (RWIN): 201356
Window Scaling: 2
Path MTU Discovery: ON
RFC1323 Window Scaling: ON
RFC1323 Time Stamping: ON
Selective Acks: ON
MSS requested: 1418
TTL: unknown
TTL remaining: 117
TOS/TOS subfield: 160
TOS/Flags:

2. Test DownloadActual data bytes sent: 1024001
Actual data packets: 730
Max packet sent (MTU): 1458
Max packet recd (MTU): 1458
Retransmitted packets: 0
sacks you sent: 0
pushed data pkts: 25
data transmit time: 2.489 secs
our max idletime: 211.9 ms
transfer rate: 356910 bytes/sec
transfer rate: 2855 kbits/sec
transfer efficiency: 100%

Notes and Recommendations RWIN is in range
Looking good

Observations:
Good data stream (no/few rexmits)

I assume you have selected & now bought a router. If not you can do 2 things. Just continue with your own router. or (b) buy a TD-w8960N router from TP-Link, which I have....

iand,

I'm testing the GetNet and have got a Edimax EW-7711IN WiFi 802.11n 32-bit PCI card on order for a Win7 machine - will be checking out transfer speed and signal strength/quality. If I can play 45Mbps 1080p HD vids over the wlan that will be fine...

Able to play ~40Mbps VBR H.264 videos and transfer files at ~48Mbps over the wlan at 2.4Ghz with the Edimax 802.11n pci card - looking good, no problems smile
