Router Extension wiring colours

I have chopped the plug off a cat 5 cable and ran the cable from the back of my modem to a wall mounted cat 5 cable faceplate. The colour codes on the cat 5 cable are brown, orange, dark blue, light blue, pink, grey, light green and dark green. Can anyone tell me on the back of the faceplate which colour cable goes to each jumper?

The jumper is marked with ABCD and refers to the twisted pair configuration of the cable as my colours do no match i am a bit lost

That is what I found on the net but the colours of the cable do not respond to the colours on my cable!

Does anyone know?

Can't you see the colours in the plug you chopped off?

The O/P's posted them but they are non standard, prolly a cheapo cable. Sounds more like a flat 8 core rather than a cat 5.

err, and the position of the each wire in the plug

The pairings, I believe are:

Dk Blue and Lt Blue
Orange and Pink
Brown and Grey
Dk Green and Lt Green

But what you have is probably a 4 pair telephone cable terminated in RJ45s - the twists in each pair will be the same as Cat5 - check that the pairs are as I suggest and there is twisting.

or use a meter to see which wire is connected to each pin on the far end.

To be fair this was a cheap flee bay purchase and the wires are not twisted..... So shall I invest in proper twisted cat5 and buy rj45 terminals?

I think you would be best with the correct cable and proper faceplates at both ends, with patch (drop) leads to the equipment.
