Ethernet cable

Greetings,

Is there a difference between a £1.50 and a £15.00 Ethernet cable?

I need it to connect my Set top box to my Broadband Modem/Router.

Maybe, the cheaper one might be not twisted pair. Can you link to the ones you mean?

But, tbh, if it works, it works.

Without further information,

The £15 cable is a rip off (unless it's 100 metres long, and even then it's not cheap)

as long as the £1.50 cable is 4pair UTP cable you should be fine.

Depends on the cable length and whether it's Cat5e, but in your case, if both cables are the same length then go for the cheaper one.

Hi, Cat5e (UTP) Patch Cable is what you need to connect your TV Ethernet port to your broadband router Ethernet port.

Edit. The answer to your question the £15 cable is (STP) Shielded Twisted Pair (do not buy that); the £1.50 cable is (UTP) Unshielded Twisted Pair.

I hadn't decided on any particular brand or price. Just wondered if cheap = poor quality and not cheap = good quality.

In which case it's not, technically, an Ethernet cable.

Belkin = double or treble the price!

Personally, I tend to use Cables To Go brand. http://www.misco.co.uk/applications/SearchTools/item... and have never had a problem with them.

I might wonder about the quality of the £1.59 cable - and give it a miss.

Hi Anon, have edited my original post� The answer to your question the £15 cable is (STP) Shielded Twisted Pair (do not buy that); the £1.50 cable is (UTP) Unshielded Twisted Pair.

Now say you did use the £15 (STP) Shielded Twisted Pair cable.
First nail down the router, connect to router then uncoil cable and straighten, connect to set top box, let go! Set top box flies through the air across room spinning on the end of coiling cable and hits the wall opposite then drops to the floor coiling up like a snake near router. Have experienced this the cable has a powerful memory.

I almost spat my drink all over the monitor when read a 10m cable for £17. DON'T BUY it that is a complete rip off. Go for the £1.50 cable they are the same only difference is that stupid little bit of rubber that covers the back of the connector.
