Is it just a router I need to extend wireless via CAT5?

Hi,

At the moment, I've one wireless box (WHR-G300N) and CAT5 in various rooms in the house.

However, I'd like to extend wireless coverage.

In one room, I've a switch on the end of the CAT5 and wanted to replace this with a wireless router rather than using a wireless repeater.

Am I right in thinking, I can use any router as long as it's not a modem and has a CAT5 input rather than a telephone cable input?

Probably a really stupid question, but I've always been told a stupid question is one that hasn't been asked

Why a wireless router on the end of this cable? Rather than a wireless access point, which is ethernet input and wireless output.

The wireless router would create a different network, and possibly create double NAT issues for you

OK, thanks for clarifying.

In that case, getting another WHR-G300N should work, as I believe that can be set as a router or AP.

You only need to use a WAP, but you may find a wireless router is easier to get hold of. It doesn't matter if it a modem/router or just a router as you only have to use the LAN switch part of it, not the modem or routing part.

If using a router in that fashion you need to ensure its DHCP server is turned off, and the IP address does not conflict with other hardware
