can't access modem

i just got myself a Tp-link TL-WR1043ND, which is piggy backed to my old netgear Dg 834Gt, which have a DG team firmware, which allows it to be used as a modem only.

so i got the TL-WR1043ND connected to a ethernet ADSL modem, while I can access the net and I can access the router, for some reason I can not access the modem,

If i connect the modem directly to the computer, then I can access the interface.

Not having used separate router and modem before I am a bit lost, but it is a fun learning curve:), have anyone got any idea?

What's the IP address of the modem, router and PC?

the Ip address of the router is 192.168.1.1
computer is 192.168.1.100

the modem was 192.168.0.1, I presume it still is

er, how do you access it when connected directly to the PC?

it is still 192.168.01.

i access it by typing in the IP address and up comes the config/status screen.

The problem is that with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, the modem and the router have the same IP address of .1
If you change the address of the router to be 192.168.1.2 then you should be able to access the modem.

done that, still no go, i found a way of doing it, but it means changing the wan to static Ip and putting the gateway to my modem, which works fine but knocks me off the net,

Maybe that is the way it is done, I will really have to look more into networking. people who have cable or fibre must have the same problem if they want to access the config of their modems, or don't virgin and Open reach allow them to do that?

Try changing the address of the modem to 192.168.1.2.

The modem and the router are in different subnets. One is 192.168.1.* and the other 192.168.0.*. Change the modem to be anything free in 192.168.1.* and it will become accessible.
