Wired connection on VLAN2

Hi folks,

I was hoping someone could help me with a dilemma I am having.

I have a BrightBox router and use the multiple wireless setting so the kids have restrictions on VLAN 1, but my equipment uses VLAN 2 unrestricted.

The problem comes as I want to remote control a media centre that uses the wireless network on VLAN 2 (192.168.2.x), but the main PC has a wired ethernet connection (192.168.1.x).

Can anyone advise me on how I can make my wired connection use the x.x.2.x subnet or will I have to swap the connections around so that the restrictions appear on VLAN 2.

Setup static IP addresses on your network and you can configure your devices to connect to whatever IP addresses or virtual LAN you wish.

There are three issues here, the VLAN (which can restrict where traffic goes), the IP addressing and the "wireless isolation" issue being discussed elsewhere here about printing.

I don't think there's enough of us know enough about the brightbox TBH, but in general terms...

Using a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0 will allow devices on 192.168.1.x and 192.168.2.x to ping each other via a switch without the router picking the packet up and forwarding it to the WAN port. The 255.255 defines the network and the 0.0 the clients.

VLANs are capable of keeping traffic isolated, so I don't know.

Wireless isolation may prevent the Wireless to LAN or vice versa traffic. What are the addresses on VLAN1, and can you ping between things on there and on a wired connection ?

Deleted by E7er, I found my VLAN2 configuration did not work, it would not connect to the Internet, so I give up.
