Adding a new wireless device

I have a Thomson modem/router Tg585 v7 and it works perfect.
1 computer connected with cable, 1 computer wireless (Gigabyte USB network) 1 HD wireless printer and 1 portable computer also wireless.
Bought a wireles USB network Netgear N300, WNA3100 because I wanted
the first computer also to be connected wireless..
The trouble is that the Thomson router does not accept the Netgear USB card. Have Windows 7 and the Netgear is supposewd to be compatible with
it.
Anyone regognize the failiure and what to to do ?

What does that mean?

You can't plug the Wireless USB Adapter (not card) into the router? It's not meant to; it's for the PC.

Or the PC with the adapter can't see the router's SSID? Have you installed its drivers?

"accept" is a peculiar word to use in this situation.

what error message do you get ?

Tnx for answer, my choose of words just show my ignorance....

I have installed the Adapter by means of the provided CD and instructions. I have also downloaded the driver from the net.
At the end of the installation I am instructed to push a button on the Adapter and then push the button on the modem. No connection to the Internet..

I have checked the modem Tg585 v7 and among the wireless units there is a unit with an IP 78.x.x.x. All the other units have IP starting with 192.....

???

The push button system does not always work.

You may have more success entering the security key that the wireless network has.

Is the usb device able to see the wireless network at all

That 76 number is not a wireless unit it is your public IP address

The one your ISP gave you

I have used the Network key all the time and it has not worked. The problem was evidently the key...
I used the key for the modem/router Tg585 v7 and now it is working perfectly.
