Can I ask how much you are paying for bonded ADSL?

I don't have bonded ADSL. I do have 2 phone lines but I was just commenting on OP's sockets.

Apologies - meant it as a question to original post.

I've just had a look at 1 of my slave sockets. It is completely unlike yours. It has all the gubbins on the reverse of the faceplate, not on the wall-mounted part.

Free install which is normally £80 and half price line rental, means I pay £35 a month and have a 12 month contract. Was a pretty slick set up as well, very quick to arrange and get up an running, think they beat there target go live by 3 days.

I can't get any fiber in my area and no cable either so DSL was only option.

I believe you're saying this is in fact another master socket?
No, your 2nd socket is a slave socket and an unusual one at that, as far as I can see.

You either have another, master, socket somewhere on that line or you need BT to change that slave into a proper master.

Okay so I trace the multicore from the back of the suspect right side socket, it disappears into my garage and then back through the wall towards my house again...from the wires location I believe it goes into the back of another socket on the ground floor...

Ground floor - socket view.
Ground floor - wiring view.

Would this explain the socket and wiring setup now? Other than the none conventional slave socket interior?

That's the NTE5 master for the right hand line.

MaxDSL - goes as fast as it can and doesn't read the line checker first.

Well then, that must be the master for the 2nd line and what you showed us first (on R) is a slave to it. Does it ring to the 2nd number?

I can only refer you to this wiring & socket info: http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/socket.htm

Ha indeed, really appreciate your help as well as the others who contributed.

So reading around on the link you shared it seems like the orange bell wire is surplus and can be disconnected...this also has a chance of improving ADSL speeds right?

So my options are I re-wire this myself but from what has been said this is really a "no no" and I should get BT out to do the job properly :-\
