Yes, the Asus is a web GUI, and there is custom firmware available if you want it. Can't tell you much about it as I'm still on stock firmware (several versions old actually- if it ain't broke, don't fix it tongue)

You can hang a USB drive (2 of them if you want) on the Asus, but I haven't tried using mine for Time Machine. Don't see why it shouldn't work though.

edit: Yes I do- only supports FAT16/32, EXT2/3 and NTFS frown
