network wireless printer to access point

I got fibre the other day

From phone line it goes into a open reach white modem - no user web interface accessible (locked down)
from here i have a cable goes into talk talk talk d link 3680 (it use to be my primary ADSL modem but i am now sort of using it as a repeater/extender/ or access point I am not sure of the terminology)
its config as IP address 192.168.1.25 , DHCP off, UPNP off and firewall off and set it to bridge mode. wiped out the ADSL broadband username/password.

Netherless, so i synced my wireless Epson work force WF 3520 to the Talk Talk D-link 3680 router by pressing the WPS button on both.

Ii am suspecting i need to do port forwarding

I can access the router admin and printer admin still if I force IP address to 192.168.1.1 and type in internet explorer 192.168.1.25 to access the router admin and 192.168.1.10 to access the printer admin

Not too sure why this is possible? I thought i would have to force IP address 192.168.1.25 to access router admin page otherwise must be sheer luck.

Epson printer stats now say IP address is 192.168.1.10 but if i try find or add a printer or ping 192.168.1.10 i got no reply???? when im connected with obtain IP addrss auto

Urm if you want more than one device connected to your fibre connection you need a NAT router i.e. a router with an Ethernet WAN port.

One presumes the Ethernet from the openreach modem is plugged into a LAN port on the DLink currently?

Which broadband provider are you using? Most consumer ones supply a suitable router with the fibre connection

Seems to be a lot of confusion here. Surprised it works at all!

You should be using this as your main router & WAP, unless you have some other device you haven't mentioned.

Surely you need DHCP ON, esp. when you want devices to Obtain IP Auto, Firewall ON & BB username pwd set if reqd. by ISP.

Are you also fixing the IPs of your PC(s)?

type 192.168.1.25 in internet explorer

long sorry cut short, Talk Talk engineer installed fibre and left my house with a faulty fibre router. Which is why I am using an old router (Talk Talk D-link 3680)

sorry im getting my knickers in a twist. open reach engineer said i dont have a broadband username and password no more because im basically on Talk Talks fibre WAN.

so from my phone socket is a wire goes into a VDSL BT open reach modem (only), b-focus v-2fub/r rev.B fibre modem . this modem only has DSL cable in (for my fibre) and LAN 1 , LAN2 . LAN 2 is blanked off (not in use) . LAN 1 connects to my Talk Talk D-link 3680 router.

the master socket is next to my front door which is why i am using the Talk Talk D-llink 3680 router as the wireless router (has LAN1 and LAN2 ports) so all my xbox, printers, ipads, laptops , phones can connect to it..

My Talk Talk D-link 3680 router was previously my broadband router but i am using it as a wireless router at the moment (until my other talk talk huawei 533A fibre router arrives hopefully after bank holiday to replace the dead on arrival one).

so what i did was on talk talk dlink 3680 router following guides on internet to set it up as a wireless router.
set IP address to 192.168.1.25.
turn off firewall
turn off UPNP
turn off DHCP because my fibre modem will act as the main DHCP now?
i left the wireless username and password as is so i dont have to go around my house re enter the wireless password.

On my Epson WF 3520 , i used WPS button to set it up to the Talk Talk D-link 3680 router. a stat page says its connected and its IP address is 192.168.1.10

So i can use the internet as normal. If i do an IP config it shows

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 2.101.230.38
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.254.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 2.101.230.1

but if i type 192.168.1.25 it doesn't show the talk talk D-link 3680 admin page.
if i also try 192.168.1.10 it doesn't show the Epson printer admin page
But I can use the internet as normal

but on my laptop if i manually specify IP address 192.168.1.1
connect directly to the Talk Talk D-link 3680 LAN 1 socket.
i can now load the Talk Talk dlink 3680 admin page.if i also try 192.168.1.10 it now loads the epson printer admin page. but i have no internet

If I was to curiously do an IP config it shows

Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

this is why i need to set up some port forwarding on the Talk Talk D-link 3680 right?

YOUR FIBRE MODEM DOES NOT WORK AS A DHCP SERVER. This is the route of your confusion.

You have effectively added a wireless access point to the openreach modem and this only one device will get access to the Internet.

So avoid more brain ache its sit back and use just a single computer to access the internet in the mean time, and wait for the replacement TalkTalk router to arrive.

nb. all my laptops and devices are using auto obtain IP

No! The OR modem has no DHCP functionality. AS it name implies it is a Modem period.

So it is not possible for any of your devices to get an IP as they are all set for Get IP Auto, and so they have no connectivity at all .

Where do you do the IPconfig? On the printer? Can't be the laptop as they are on diff subnets. Note its IP & Gateway are direct to TT, unlike laptop which is in router's subnet.

Think this whole mess is due to having no DHCP.
