Hi All,
Need advise on replacing PlusNet's supplied Technicolor router, as I've just gone live on FTTC with 78Mbps download speed, and I don't trust the supplied one by PlusNet to handle it properly.
Son uses a BT dongle for wireless connections upstairs to his PC, using the new C standard.

Are you using Openreach white VDSL2 modem? Or want to do everything in an all-in-one modem/router?

open choice really, as I want a good service, so I presume, the less wires/connections, the better in the house?

Using the openreach modem is what I prefer. Lots more routers with ethernet WAN port. Plenty swear by asus rt-n66u and its newer versions
Two box also lets you place modem in optimum location and wireless router in optimum for wireless

In that case i highly recommend you buy the 4 stream Asus RT-AC87 router which is currently the best router out there so ideally suited to fibre. You'll be amazed at how good this beast is for wifi speeds even on older legacy 802.11b/g/n clients

Arguably the best one box solution is the Asus DSL-AC68U, ADSL2+/VDSL2 combo router. It was as buggy as hell but the latest firmware seems to have fixed major disconnection issues on the VDSL side.

What about the DSL-N66U? It's presumably cheaper but it's not clear if it has a ADSL/VDSL combo modem. It does say "Auto-detecting ADSL/VDSL connection" but doesn't say "�Compatible with ADSL2/2+, ADSL, VDSL2" like the DSL-AC68U.

The DSL-N66U does accept a VDSL signal but like the DSL-AC68U initially, its not very stable....unless you're happy with DLM lowering your speeds on FTTC i'd stay well away from this router until Asus sort out the fw issues.

I have the DSL - AC68U with the latest firmware and it's still as bad as ever so I'm using it as a router only with an Openreach Modem till Asus fix it.
