using Netgear DGN1000 as switch

Before I upgraded to infinity, I was using a Netgear DGN1000 as a modem. I would like to re-purpose this as a switch. M room only has one Ethernet port. it's not enough when for example am upgrading all my Ubuntu pc's in my room so I can keep an eye on all of them. At the moment it's connected to one of the subnets offered by my cisco Rv220w.

I have turned off NAT and DHCP on the DGN1000 and given it a new IP on the subnet and disabled the firewall on it. so is there anything else I need to do to avoid the strange routing issues I've been experiencing. I know netgear metal switches are cheap nowadays but figured save myself 15 -20 quid.

Just avoiding an IP clash and turning off DHCP should usually be enough.

As MrS says, avoid address clashes or the potential for it. I set my router DHCP to allocate addresses from .64 to .127 and then put fixed addresses in the .128 to .240 block .
