I am pretty sure the router will have a factory reset button (accessed through a small hole), which may need pushing for 30 seconds or so with the end of an unfolded paper clip. This will cure any duffing up, but also loose any setting you may have entered which were good.

A couple of Homeplugs for now and a cheap Ethernet switch for later.

You can find cheap (under £10) wifi repeaters on eBay. They can connect to routers etc via lan cable as well as by wifi.

The whole idea has turned out to be a non-starter any way ..

I tried the YouView box's iplayer functions with a WiFi connection last night .. it is just not fast enough .. it is OK (just) on a wire connection but unusable on WiFi.

Luckily I don't have a subscription cost.

Yes, but many of these radiate spurious emissions across a great spectrum of radio bands and cause a lot of interference, so I'm steering clear of them ....

As I said, I only have the box 'cos it came free with the broadband package .. don't really 'need' it .. I already have an STB which does the basic job anyway.
